Arnhem/Nijmegen super-size game
Arnhem/Nijmegen super-size game
OK, hopefully by now, u have either seen the actual game of pictures of the Arnhem game I put on at MOAB (if not see the WWII gallery), I am now thinking of adding a 'Nijmegen' table, scratchbuilt in a similar fashion (and with a whole RF US Para division) and eventually a table for the area between Arnhem and Nijmegen .... while speaking with BlueWillow regarding this, he came up with the idea of running a complete game of this at the Goulburn club, with a Fee to participate (the plan would be for an entire weekend of it) .... so my questions are:
1. Would people (you! gamers!) firstly be willing to travel to Goulburn, to participate in a game like this?
2. What do you think would be a fair price to pay to take part in a game like this (I know we'ed all like it to be free, but please be sensible with your comments on this ..... depending on the results of these questions, would possibly be the fate of the Nijmegen+ table)?
Rgds

Sydney,
think of your northern brothers-in-arms.
We can get cheap flights to Sydney but Goulburn means hire cars, etc.
There are quiote a few of us who play Rapid Fire up here who might be interested if at the right place.

Re: Arnhem/Nijmegen super-size game
Canberra is closer, 1hr drive where as sydney is a neat 2hrs, also the bus from the terminal to the hire cars is a killer for domestic flights! Canberra right at the door!
Flights from bris to Canberra on sale now cheaper than Syd!

Saltykov,
I used to live up on the north shore, and drive down to Southern Battlegamers every week, and then there was MOAB, I had some North shore gaming buddies (you know who you are), who as a general rule couldn't even be bothered (when I offered them a lift) to go to MOAB (and the one time they did accept, it was a complete disaster .... I won't go in to that but I think Akula can back me up!
), It amazes me, just how slack some Aussie gamers can be, there are 2/3 decent shows near-enough/in Sydney to attend every year (MOAB/Cancon/Leviathan), and yet they can't even be assed to cross the city! or drive for a few hours! or even accept a lift from others !
Rant over

A_C,
I understand your frustration, we have a simialr problem here in Brisbane at times.
I take everyone's point on Canberra v Sydney for flights, so Goulburn may be an options after all.

the same happens in Canberra for club meets, the north will not go south and the south will not go north, its just plain laziness!
The Arnhem event will be a total arnhem event no other periods I think.
my two cents

Happy to do that as well.Cardinal Biggles wrote:actually has a ring to it..you blokes coud come down and do some Koenig Krieg demos..
We are also thinking about a tournamanet at CanCon 2009, there is a thread in the KK lounge in the directories forum.

Re: Arnhem/Nijmegen super-size game

Re: Arnhem/Nijmegen super-size game
as I understand it it hasn't been actually planned yet, this is just the sounding out process..

This is just the sounding out process, but I have already gotten out my Nijmegen/The Island books and drawn up rough plans for the boards ... coming south of the Arnhem Bridge, is (primarily) the elevated highway, this is on a table about 9' by 5' (Long side is N-S_.... the Waal will be right at the bottom end of this table, with the road and railway bridges
off the base of this will be the Nijmegen/Groesbeek table about 3m x 2m (E-W) ..... I'm also thinking of adding another table off to the western side of the Bettuwe Highway table (thus forming a T on its side) which can then be used so that the 101st fight for Opheusden in October (when 101st garrisoned the Island) can be refought, also at the same time, the 10th SS (Frundsberg) was putting pressure on the British Infantry to the North and East of the Elevated highway
... this way ALL the tables get some serious play/usage one way or another
..... I have to be careful here though, its kinda working in my head, and its just a matter of time until I extend the Nijmegen table to include Grave Bridge .... and then Hells Highway ... Veghel.... Best .... Son ..... Eindhoven ..... Valkenswaard ..... and errr ... Joes Bridge ... My guessing is this would stretch even my building collection and could end up well over 30m of table .... its a worry, even to me, and you know what a megolomaniac I am!
