Malaya 42 20mm campaign game-5

Post by mluther » Thu Jul 21, 2016 12:27 am

Another Attack and Defend scenario. This time with a rubber plantation
With the guys up from Florida I decided that this would be a nice 5 person game. William T had the ongoing Aussie platoon of Archie Cobb. Both Aussie platoons had been reduced: Cobb's original one was down to 23 men and the 'new' one played by Rick C was down 4 men. Martin and Stephen C had the 2 new full strength Japanese infantry platoons and we had a 3 tank type 95 ha Go platoon that I played. Japanese took a lot of support this time:2 MMG teams, a Demo team (for the road block), a sniper,2 Rifle grenadiers, and a Flamethrower.
The Aussies had the road block, 2 Vickers MMGs, and an adjutant.

Hi!

As per your other games this one looks great. Always good to see Aussies featuring in a game. How many games will make up your campaign?

I had my first test game of TW&T the Two Fat Lardies predecessor set of platoon sized rules before CoC last weekend. They are very similar to IABSM (you can never have enough acronyms) and I liked them but I'll need a couple more run throughs before I unleash them on one of our fortnightly Monday gaming nights.

Cheers!

I really don't know how long the campaign will last. It is from the TFL Xmas special and is suppose to run til the Japanese break through. The Aussies have very limited replacement ability while the Japanese can replace their units every game, so its pretty inevitable that a limit of endurance will get reached soon.
Thanks,
Mark

Hey Mark,

So regarding the campaign how is overall victory determined? By the sounds of what you say is the more games it takes the strong Japs to break through the limited Aussie force means it swings more to an Aussie overall victory?

Exactly. Historically if we go longer than 8 games the Aussies have done better.
The campaign is designed for 6 scenarios in a prescribed order. The Japanese have to win or make the Aussies withdraw form each or the scenario is played again with the same Aussie platoon in place with losses and a new Japanese platoon. So The Australian player has to be rather cautious-The Japanese player not at all!.
This is the second time we've played Scenario 3, so Aussies are doing a bit better than historically at this time.
