Port Republic 40mm ACW

Postby fanai » Fri Sep 04, 2015 9:28 am

Just a post of some photos of the wonderful game held at 'Brads" place last weekend using Fire and Fury rules
-using some of our New 40mm figures
Brad, Mark<David and myself spent o great day out moving these Giants around the table( may need to do a bit more weight Training)

The Battle was 8 turns Starting with the confederates having first go- movement was hampered by a few leaders not able to bring their command into range and some crucial units only moved at half- the Union forces then let the Confederates meet a storm of Lead - and quite a few casualties and disorders were handed out to the units in the open

Turn 1 saw the union also have movement troubles with 2 units total refusing to budge at all - trading fire the confederates again took the worst but one lucky shot sent one of the foremost batteries running

Turn 2 - The confederates pressed their attacks but again with all the disorders - units just did not want to close with the Union forces or when they did were bounced by the Union forces, the casualties on the Confederate side was mounting -with the Artillery taking large casualties. while very few for themselves

Turn 3 Tide turns
Confederate Charges go in and the Dice deserts the union players and in the woods the Confederates make sweeping advances with their far left units bouncing off and only just holding ground with the Union counter attacks, just out of the woods the union try to bring in fresh units
to support the weaken front units, while on the far flank - both sided stare at each other seeing who was going to make the first move
Turn 4 Confederates on the Attack
The Confederates in the woods somehow get every unit to get full move ( I threw 4 '10s' for movement) and charged the outnumbered units in the woods and proceeded to grind towards The Coaling"
in the centre Union and confederate units swoop fire and the Confederate charges push the union back and catch a unit in march column
Union attack on the left but are thrown back - dark clouds are forming over the pressed Union ranks - Jackson ceases the chance to attack

turn 5 Dark clouds for Union

Several units of union on the Coaling and woods in front are crushed by the vicious attack by the Tigers ending with all the guns either destroyed or damaged, the far Union uit refused to listen to their attached leader and runs for the hills
the centre sees the March column reduced to a shell and the following Confederate unit press home the attack
on the Union right they total miss their opportunities and units are pushed back

Turn 6 Victory for Jacksons Men
after the Confederate Turn 6 the Union concedes as their whole forces are outnumbered are either running or outnumber by 2-3 to one

the Game did not go its full 8 turns and the Confederates actually played just like the history pages with those out in the open suffering from the vicious artillery fire while the confederated worked up through the woods to take the batteries out and the causing the Union forces to Flee

Great looking game!

Excellent figures and terrain.

I like the recreation of the famous picture of Rebel prisoners.

Cheers!
