Bocage Hell

Post by soapdodger » Fri Mar 06, 2009 7:48 am

Tuesday nite's game.........
Brits vs Germans.........post June 44, somewhere in the bocage....
Brits : 2 Bttns of Lorried Inf, sans transport apart from a few Brens, 4 Cromwells, 2 Challengers. Objective, gain as much ground as possible.
Germans : 1 Bttn Fallschirmjager - Elite, 2 Jagdpanthers, 3 StuGs, 2 Pumas, - regular. Should have been 4 StuGs. but the German commander forgot to put 4 out,

Terrain before the game...........

The Brits move first.

Image

Jagdpanthers eye view of the advance.

Image

The column moving up behind the point vehicle.

Image

Getting closer..........

Image

The other half of the Brits advance up the centre.

Image

Image

Image

The StuGs deploy, and A/T, plus inf advance to cover.

Image

Image

Image

Mortars deploy....and view of the Right hand side German defence.

Image

Jadgpanther impersonating Giraffe, feeding on foliage.............

Image

Chally and a hidden 6pdr score light damage.........
Image

Sneaky Cromwell....
Image
Scores light damage also.........
Image
Centre StuGs revenge........
Image

Meanwhile more Brit inf deploy in the centre and advance.
Image

Jagdpanther hits.......... :

Image

And so does the left hand StuG.....
Image

Brit inf tabbing.........
Image

Image

Mystery guest exhorting the Jagdpanther to do better............
Image

StuGs redeploy for a better position,
Image

At this point, the Brit players morale folded, both on and off the table, as all their armour was either destroyed or routed. So..........6 more Brit tanks appear. Instant uplift for the Brits.................

Image

Deja Vu...
Image

Image

Image

Image

StuG destroyed.... Image

Image

Brits wisely decide to smoke the Jagdpanther, well, one of 'em...
Image

Surviving StuG retires to resupply............honest...
Image

And the crew leave the other one for a short while.....
Image

Brits close with the Jagers across the field, and lose a Company.....
Image
But the Jagers withdraw to the next hedgrow......
Image

Jagdpanthers are good aren't they......
Image

Pumas arrive in support, light damage to the Chally....
Image

Image
Chally replies...

Image

Brits attack.........and then die horribly....
Image
Image

Jagdpanther meets it's PIAT as the Brit inf start to swarm over the right flank...
Image

Image

StuGs still fighting, but it's lost really on the left flank, although there is not much left of the Brit Bttn either....
Image

Can you tell who it is yet.................. Image

The Brits close in for the kill.........
Image
Image

A hard fought game, with the Brits losing heavily in armour, but eventually the infantry were too many for the Germans. Cue Rob who wanted 234/1s instead of Pumas..........those 2cm autocannon might just have come in handy................ ;) .
Bocage is a bitch to fight in, with little LOS or room to manoeuvre, a real grinder, and very costly in inf for any attacker............
Thanx for looking.....

In the words of the well-known song: "If you go down to the woods today, you're in for a big surprise."

No wonder Davros was hiding. Obviously, the Cyberman mechanics were helping the Fascist hordes maintain their armour.

Looks like it was a great game. :)
