BLACK HAWK DOWN
Myself and David Tuck (of the Grimsby Wargames Society) was asked to join in on this anniversary issue, we both immediately leapt to the incident that occurred in Mogadishu, Somalia, in 1993. Dave would write the article while i did the photos, i would like to thank W.I. for allowing us to take part in the 300 anniversary and we all agree they have come along way from the very first issue and have contributed a great deal to wargaming.

We created the firefight as close as we could get to the movie and for those who have seen Black Hawk Down will have more of a understanding of what is going on and for those who have never seen the movie ... i suggest you watch it as it is one of the all time great war films.

You know what Paul we thought the same thing, but the movie is more or less bang on for everything, even the hollywood part of the n.c.o standing around in front of the firefight and being cool giving orders, i thought that ruined it, but no...he really was like that. The Mogadishu mile they did run because the pickups drove off and just lefted them behide, i questioned the movie for a lot of things but for once Hollywood more or less got it correct its not as cheesy as it made.

Yes Ridley Scott did a great job,Ive read Mark Bowdens book and articles and the whole thing reads like a film script, sadly with a lot worse consequenses for the people involved and the country of Somalia, which continues to feel the effects of that action even today. If youve never read it you owe it to yourself to do so.
