20mm WWII Master WIP (Update)

Post by Admin Fella » Sun Jul 15, 2012 7:55 pm

Hey Guys

Being one to try and get the most use out of any figure master, i have started some early work on 20mm Ardennes Fallschirmjager.

Here are first 2 figures with FG42, great coats and para smocks over the top. I have given one guy mittens. I have a 3rd being worked on for a 3 figure pack. i have not tried to sculpt gas canister, mess tin and entrenching tool yet. :)

Anyway any thoughts, opinions and/or suggestions would be welcome. :)

So we can safely assume these will be added?

Hey Guys

I have been slowly chipping away at some more WWII masters and thought i would post a few WIP pics. Again these are conversions of existing figures i have already had done, anything in grey is my own.

I would certainly appreciate some feedback to gauge whether i am on the right track or not and anything i may look to adjust/correct. :)

Soviets in winter uniform with PPS SMG's.

Test figure for WWII Brit Commandos. Mainly to practice the Beret and Bergen. I have always planned to do Commandos and also Para from the Brit figures i have and will adjust poses etc more on future figures.

I have pretty much finished the first 3 Ardennes FJ. Will do another 3 next with G43 Semi Auto Rifle.

Thanks fellas. :)

I have done an "officer" type for the rocket crew, but feel free to let me know what i should have, so i can do the figures accordingly.

I will be doing DP etc, but with intention of winter period. Any pics that may reference different aspects based around these guys would be welcome. I will add great coat as well.

Mathew

actually Marine and Army commandos in denison smocks , berets and carrying bergen packs..NCOs and officers armed with tommy guns , LMG the vickers K, would be very useful..Westkapelle and Rhine crossing..immediately spring to mind..commandos despised the sten gun and kept the tommy gun..

If the helmet does not look right then it is ok to say so.

I thought it was a bit big, so i will look to a smaller one which may fit better.

I had aimed for these guys to be for DDay, but maybe in Smocks may be better?? Smocks should not be hard to add.

Any pics for reference??

Well I have a lot of pictures in books but scanning isn't an option at the moment..I think the Osprey has a picture of a bloke in a smock , bit no pack..

Agree the helmet looks large, I think a bit smaller and possibly just with the netting and not so much scrimmage. Again smocks would be nice, perhaps you could talk to Andrew and Stuart and use some of the Para's as a base for those and do these ones for Normandy as a start, please do the conversion of the PIAT as well

will they be ready by Christmas Mathew :D

Yep, I will change the helmet over.

I will leave these guys as is and they can be used as the base for smocks later.

Once i have a mould full (about 8 more figures) they will be straight to the mould maker, that should be when i get home in about 8 weeks, so yes, should be well ready by Christmas.

Piat pair will also be done. Not sure what i will do next either Bren teams or general firing poses. I dont have a KGun at the moment so that will have to wait unfortunately.

Mathew

actually at Westkapelle and the Rhine crossing,,and during much of the time in Normandy the commandos eschewed the helmet altogether, much to the chagrin of the medical staff..
what reference books are you using?

That is why the majority are in beret.

I know you see a few with the coiled rope on the kit which is another detail i could add here and there.

Some WIP on a few more figures. First up are some more FJ, 2 with G43 Semi Auto and one with M1 Carbine and Faust. I built the kneeling guy up from scratch and hand did the equipment, i am pretty happy with the way he is turning out.

The next 2 are a commander for the Russian Katusha and for the "88" Crew.

I would (again) appreciate any feedback if i am on the right track and what may need to be adjusted (aside from the camera which i need to look at).

The figure on the right is the FJ Officer. The map case and I have done the peaked cap prominent to stand out.

I hope the Soviet cap looks right to, This is all new ground for me sculpting wise, so just trying to get them right. :)

I was going to do the MG42 in 2 poses - prone and advancing. I suppose it all goes by what people prefer?
