Jack Churchill

Post by Gavo » Sat Jun 20, 2015 9:59 pm

My son told me about this bloke. He went to war in 1940 with bow and sword. An amasing fella.

Lieutenant Colonel John Malcolm Thorpe Fleming "Jack" Churchill, DSO & Bar, MC & Bar (16 September 1906 – 8 March 1996), nicknamed Fighting Jack Churchill and Mad Jack, was a British soldier who fought throughout the Second World War armed with a longbow, bagpipes, and a basket-hilted Scottish broadsword.

Nice one. I have seen a blurry pic of the Normandy landings with him carrying his sword.

Crazy stuff.

Actually he's probably a distant relative of Major Tatham-Warter famed for carrying an umbrella around with him while in the thick of it... :D ...
