From what I have read of the rules so far, the game would be quite easy to play as a solo game too, as the Control test in many ways plays the part of the enemy for you.

Like the sound of the solo bit. Are they just European or can they be used say in Indian or American battles?

well Frosty you would have to rethink the figure ratio..as for concept they are as far from AUWRG that one could imagine

It is designed for Europe, but would be very easy to convert to the F&IW with a few tweaks.

I have the Warfare in the age of reason rules, which i could used to extract bits and pieces from to help with this.

the tweaking is essentially the ratio and Sam does mention that, and close attention to the terrain restrictions, I cant see why it shouldn't work..we are going to replay a game we played in WRG world next meeting, see how it all goes..

Dont mind tweaking ratios, have done that before with WRG for AWI battles back in the old days when the Capt and I lived in the Gong. May have to have a look on the weekend.

well you could scale it down from a uit + a brigade to a unit + a battlion..or not as you feel..it is a lot simpler to year "two hats" play both side with these rules though they are abstract, but remember the Cardinal's First Principle Of Wargaming or FPOW...also known as The Cardinal's Wargaming Rules Paradox "The more abstract the rules ,the more realistic the result.."

An interesting and provocative view, IceCanid.

WRG aren't abstract, they are a weird attempt to be realistic and I got that from Phil himself..though they may be thought of as Dadaist

so frost pup are you going to try them ? they are very good.. though a pretty big paradigm shift from the more micromanaged rules slsewhere, here you play a commander of many thousands and in a sense all other things are handled by the table top subordinates though you as commander can influence them..you make the descisions and in the rules htings are are pretty much such that it is then very out of your hands..

Yeh will have alook at them if they are on sale at cancon. I like the idea that they also have campaign rules included. Not that I have a SYW army nor am I likely to, although the heir likes the look of SYW or WSS French so he might get something out of them as well.
