Straw??

Post by Theword » Tue Dec 02, 2008 12:17 pm

Gents..

Is this image showing straw undercloths? I would say yes, however a good friend and I are debaing whether this is indeed buff as opposed to straw, and that straw is actually more of an eggyoke yellow..

I am after the colour for the Prussian 22nd...

Look at the reenactors (Hessian) on the front page here

straw for me, a good way to do it , well the way I do it, is paint the area Deneb stone, wash with Devlan mud then highlight with bleached bone..see my Eureka Saxon wip for the gunners in straw small clothes,

mind you "straw" might just be the German expression for what the British call "buff", though "buff" can be a variet of shades from very brown to very straw.."straw" is always straw..

I just saw a picture of what Vallejo Buff looks like.. and overall it looks like the colour I think looks the part..

What I'm thinking is V-buff block paint, brown wash, Vbuff highlight, final highlight with bleached bone..

PS. WHo the heck sells Vallejo paint in Canberra?

I don't think that this scan will be large enough to tell properly, but Hans Bleckwenn's version of straw can be seen in the waistcoat of the grenadier figure schematic drawing on the far left:

If you have the MAA Osprey, it has a whole plate, A, showing IR6.

I only use my Ospreys when I want to take a book to bed and I know I'm too tired to read anything in depth.

They are nice for inspiration, but won't give you much of an insight into the true psychological impact Frederick's father had on Junior, and how this in turn had a lasting impact on Europe.

Plus they really aren't that cheap...

Ioannis used Foundation Ochre for his recent IR6:

a bit yellow for me and those ape like Foundry figures , yrchhh blandford has a nice pic , definately the light variety according to Mollo, for what that is worth..I would use the ochre for ellow clothes..those GW colours are oftern overlooked by gamers in theirrRush to use fiddly hard to mix vallejos..I prefer a pot to an eye dropper anytine..

Did you see what Ioannis was asking for his Prussian IR6 Gardes? EURO 20.00 per figure.

Wowzers!!!!!

They are nicely painted, but they ARE Foundry figures.

Cripes!

Mine must be worth at least what I paid for them then!

Ioannis' figures to me don't look like they're not in straw but yellow..........

ah all in the eye of the beholder..Ionnis is a very very fine painter but he does have an unnatural attachment to foundry..
