Agreed, Njal's Saga is a cracker. I also like Orkneyinga Saga and Volsunga Saga.

I liked the thaettir Authun and the Bear. Always thought it would make a nice film.

Oh yeah, forgot about Egil. Warrior, drunkard, poet.

I also have a novelisation of Hrolf Kraki's Saga by Poul Anderson which I read before I ever read any other sagas. This is a great read as well, with were-beasts, witchcraft, cataclysmic battles and unexpected revenge. Brilliant!

good book that Hrolf Kraki's saga , 3 hearts and 3 lions by Anderspn is one of my favourites as well

Hooray! I have found another person that has read it!

I have 3 Hearts and read it once about 20 years ago but I vaguely remember that it did not do much for my. Might have to give it another go.

Have you read Anderson's 'The Broken Sword'? This was the first fantasy novel that I ever read and ultimately got me interested in Vikings.

Yes I have ..the 1950s Movie the Vikings is what got me into Vikings and the Longships

its my Red hair, that got me interested in Vikings,

I must read that one, although I have read a little on the battle of Clontarf from the Saga.

Currently writing a saga for Wargames Illustrated, 12 +1 warriors!
