1812 Austrian vs Russian Skirmish - Song of Drums & Shakos Rules

Postby Captain Darling » Wed Feb 15, 2017 7:23 am

We played a Napoleonic skirmish recently so out came the Song of Drums and Shakos rules.

For something different we had Austrians up against Russians set during the 1812 invasion of Russia.

It started off with lots of maneuvering and ended in a bloodbath for the Russians, yep an Austrian victory!

Also we saw the birth of a Russian Napoleonic legend Sergeant Snake-Eyes :D !

The Austrian view of the end of the battle...

Very nice, just got the Chosen man rules, and ordered Napoleonic Austrians, not gamed a skirmish in a long time, looking forward to it, i think i could not build a Napoleonic army up on a large scale, rather skirmish the period, thank for posting

Thanks Nevermore!

In 28mm size I have about 30 - 40 figures individually based each from France, Britain, Austraia and Russia just for skirmishing. I must get some Prussians together one day!

I'll be interested to see how you go with the Chosen Man rules.

great to see an Napoleonic skirmish game - there should be more of them.

I tried "Songs of Drums & shakos" but it didn't really seem to work for me.

I have a copy of "Chosen Man" and will probably use it for ideas rather than a set of rules.

Hey Dropbear!

Keep us posted on what you do for Napoleonic skirmish rules.

Yeah it's funny how one person can like a set of rules yet someone else finds its not for them...

Cheers!

Chosen Man rules seem pretty good, not to sure on the artillery system, anyway miniatures ordered won't take long to paint up once they come, i do like the points they use in the rules to get the right balance and you can create your own 30 figs aside, could be cavalry an artillery gun thrown in or you can just use infantry, bonus points can be useful to spice up a character and i like the bugle and standard bearer rules ... be interesting to see how these play as we always seem to adjust many rules in the past because of lack of gameplay or research.
