8th Army, DAK and Italians for Africa.

Post by Admin Fella » Sun Dec 30, 2012 7:01 pm

Hey All

Well it has been a long time since this room has been used. The intentions were always good, but the interest and devleopment did not quite take off.

I would like to change this however. I have plans and processes in place for 2013 to develop a comprehensive range for WWII Africa. I have here with me the master pieces to do all the above ranges, heads, helmets, weapons etc. They will be moulded in the next couple of weeks and all sent back to the sculptor. The hitch though is that i simply cannot fund the entire project myself.

So i am looking to a Group Build type arrangement or even starting a kickstarter project to get this up and running.

Anyway I would like to gauge interest, seek input on what it should include and decide if this is something can proceed allot quicker than it may otherwise.

My questions are:

1. Are you interested in a fresh, comprehensive range of figures for North Africa from 1940-1943??
2. If so what would you like to see the range cover?
3. Would you be interested in helping fund the development of this range in return for a teired discount off your figures? (details yet to be decided but depending on how much you commit recieving anywhere from 10%-40% off the codes YOU choose you want).

I will start this off by putting up some ideas for a range for 8th Army.

shorts (trousers seperate packs or mixed with below), mixed early and 37 web, gasmask on chest on many but carried by them all .

DB01 Officers Pistol x 2 and Thompson x 1 (3 figures)
DB02 Infantry advancing with Enfield (3 figures)
DB03 Infantry skirmishing (firing poses) with Enfield (3 figures)
DB04 Radio Signallers (3 figures)
DB05 Bren Gunner, No 2 advancing, Prone Bren Gunner (3 figures)
DB06 2 inch mortar and crew, Grenade Launcher (3 figures)
DB07 3 inch mortar and crew (3 figures, 1 x mortar)
DB08 Vickers HMG (3 figures)
DB09 25 Pdr Crew (5 figures)
DB010 ATG Crew (4 figures)
DB11 Boyes ATG and No2, Mine detector, Prone probing for mine (4 figures)
DB12 Staff Officers (4 figures)
DB13 Tank Commanders/crew (4 figures)
DB14 Tank crew standing with brews (4 figures)

Others:
DB14 Sikhs 3 figures with Enfield, 1 x Bren gunner and 1 x No 2 (5 figures)
DB15 South Africans 3 with Enfield, 1 x Bren gunner and 1 x No2 (5 figures)
DB16 Free French in Kepi 3 x Enfield, 1 x Bren Gunner, 1 x No2 (5 figures)

Australians

light order slouch hat long tunic on some early ww1 web and mix 37

DR01 Infantryman Officer Pistol 2 nco thompson's (3fig)
DR02 Infantryman Bren No 2 and ammunition carrier (3fig)
DR03 Infantryman lee enfield (3Fig)
DR04 Infantryman lee enfield (3fig)
DR05 Vickers HMG (3fig)
DR06 Staff Officers (3 figs)

This project would take several thousand dollars to do all at once. But as i said this is simply a topic to gauge interest and discuss the possibilities (including staged development).

An early figure example:

I intend to do the ranges myself as i mentioned, but as a group effort it will be possible to do 2 and maybe 3 over the year instead of only 1.

Please post your thoughts. :)

Mathew

I would be interested, especially in the Aussies.

Hopefully the list for the Aussies could be extended to hvy weapon crews etc.

I would also be most happy to do some research in to photos to help out.

A lot would depend on the cost involved for myself, plus I don't back kickstarter projects as I don't use my CC online anymore after being a victim of credit card fraud... lost over $10G, but thankfully the bank paid it back.

Thanks for the replies.

I have thought some further on the detail and here is a framework for what i would plan:

Like Kickstarter, you would "pledge" a set amount to the project and would receive a tiered discount for your pledge once project is complete.

Pledge:

$25 receive $30 WarTime Miniature credit
$50 = $60 credit
$75 = $95 credit
$100 = $130 credit
$125 = $175 credit.

Credit would apply to any pack from WarTime Miniatures ranges.

If the pledges reach the stated $$$ goal to get the commission going, each person would receive a PayPal invoice from myself (thus offering buyer protection), pay the amount and the commission would begin. I would set a 4 month time period to get the masters done. Once complete and ready you can then apply your credit to the store for the specific packs or any other you like from my ranges.

Remember aside from the credit, you are getting the figures done in 1 job lot and you can offer input here to suggest anything you may like to see in the range.

I have broken down the entire project into "phases", and pending if funds are raised, we then move onto next set.

So as per the codes above:

DB01-DB11 would require $2000
DB12-DB14 $600
DR01-DR06 $900

It would be good to have these done by May and then we can look at DAK or even Italians! :)

This is just a framwork to see if there is interest, so suggestions are welcome. :)

regards
Mathew

You might be being a bit harsh on yourself here :?

Given the lack of activity on the forum, and being it is holidays and some really hot weather maybe this needed a bit more time?

I like the idea - maybe testing the waters on other forums might be a bit more successful :)

Maybe mate. :)

I am testing the idea on another forum where there is interest in the concept, but more so for late WWII.

I will just see how it goes. :)
