Australian Pacific War Gunners (20mm)

To order this item please go to http://battlescape.com.au/shop/product_info.php?cPath=281_283_320&products_id=1883

6 Aussie artillery men (one detachment) in various poses. Variants based on head dress might allow for 3 different packs: Slouch Hat, Jungle Beret and no hat at all.

Suggested poses: layer, loader, detachment commander, 3 ammo numbers. Standing or kneeling.

I know the Cardy wont be happy with this choice, but Gunners in the Pacific wearing helmets were as rare as hen's teeth. Helmets were a 'desert thing' :D

Reference: AWM photo data base

Tally: 128

Dropbear: 24
Ragnar: 40
WargamerOz: 24
Christo: 20+
Tyberius: 20

Is this enough to get them made?

Poses: 1 kneeling figure (for the gun layer on 25lb and other guns), 1 kneeling figure reaching out to fire the gun, 1 Kneeling Detachment Commander, 1 kneeling Loader (not holding ammo) and 2 Kneeling figures holding ammo.

Note - i did have a mix of standing, sitting and kneeling figures in the mix, but after looking at photos on the AMW site, figured kneeling would be better (generally speaking) as the gunners used as much cover as they could and went for a low profile.

Uniform: a mix of shirts being worn, and no shirts.

Head dress: Slouch hat, helmet and no hat.

As i would be wanting enough for my 4 guns, this gives a running start of 24 figures. Even if I cant get the short 25lb guns made, I will still go with the requested figures and numbers as there are other guns on the market i can use, such as the 25lb gun (with out muzzle break... not used by Australia) and the 75mm Mountain gun.

I can live with the gunners in hats, though some helmets might be appropriate for North Africa etc.. as for helmets all your suggestions could have that option as well broadens the use of the basic figure..Battlescape's line could use some vehichle and carrier crews in helmet..

Just out of interest, how many guns you thinking of Ragnar, as 40 wont make complete crews, or are you using reduced crews or the figures for different things?

I was thinking crews for the 4 x short 25s and 4 x 2pdrs that I have (hoping the crews can be used for several gun types). Ideally, I would cherry pick the figures, otherwise I would be complete crews and use what I need.

My intention is to have the gun crews usable for any type of gun - from anti-tank gun, large anti-aircraft gun to the big ones, with a mix of kneeling and standing poses, wearing slouch hats or no hats, with shirts on or off.

Exact mix will be open for discussion once we get enough takers for the gunners.

I can get the set done all in slouch hat and all in bare heads. Even one in helmets if desired?

Unarmed figures such as command, gun and vehicle crews can be worked up fairly quickly. I currently have to get the weapons made, moulded and cast separately before sending to the figure sculptor. this does cause quite a delay. In the long term it will work well as i will have a stockpile of weapon types ready to go.

A set of each would probably make most gamers happy.

As for helmets, I don't want any myself, but I am sure others would like them, and if it can be easily done, then yes please.

I am happy to have a multitude of heads worked up. It proves time efficient in the long run as these heads can then be used for Desert Aussies and other figures etc.

well I'm getting 2 guns initially so a set of bare heads and one of slouch hats would do me and if you looked at another set of 6 that was comprised of a battery command of 4 figs and 2 figs for an OP then I would take one of them as well. Spotter kneeling with bino's and owen gun and RTO with rifle would be my choice, plus an RTO, officer reading map, NCO shouting firing orders and a general dogsbody that could be mixed in with the gun crew are my suggestions for this pack.

I intend to post a request for FO and Sig as a separate request, and if you want a BTY CP that would be a separate request too.

Call me naive but when you mention "slouch hats" I hope that at least some of these will be unclipped. I have heaps of photos of blokes wandering about in big floppy sweaty hats. The clipped (buttoned) images seem to be "for benefit of camera or parade"

By slouch hat i mean Hat, Felt Fur, Khaki ... still a slouch hat, just not in the position ceremonial. None of the figures will have the side up :)

Now assuming (which is never good to do) you want a full BTY of gunners this would mean 48 figures (8 guns to an Aussie WW2 BTY) for you?

I have updated the description of the figures wanted in the initial post.

For Matt - how hard and cost efficient for you to have 3 packs - each with the different suggested headdress?

Or do we go with just the one style of gunner at this stage and have the others made after the first ones are out for sale?

If only one style of gunner, I would want slouch hats :)
