June 14th (The Anniverary of Marengo) Cumberland Meet

Post by Phantom Agent » Sun Jun 14, 2009 5:26 pm

Some pics of Today's 28mm M&R games.
A good turnout, thanks to all those, we had a Rossbach refight in 15mm with M&R, 2 x 28mm M&R and a WW2 Desert game.......

For the 28mm we had Swedes v British/Hanoverian/Enteburgers and French/Enteburgers v Prussians...boy do those Enteburgers get around, always spoiling for a fight...
We had one long table 18' x 5' for both the 28mm games..

In the foreground, French to the right Prussians to the left. In the background Brit/Hano to the right with Swedes on the left.

Prussian Frei Corps lurking in the woods. They did not stay there too long, they got an uncontrollable advance die roll and spent most of the game facing off against some furry headed Frenchies...in the open...mein gott

The Prussian schwerepunkt...however, as they were poised to do what they do best to some overexposed Enteburgers, they failed to move for the next 2 pulses, enough time for the Ente's to "go at them" and shoot 'em out of their saddles. The Enteburger's were finally ridden down but too late in the day...

On the other Flank, against all of France's elite magnificence, a lone Hussar & Dragoon brigade aided by redoubtable Von Kleist Uhlans and Horse Grenadiers.....were completely annihilated, in a couple of Pulses, actually the Uhlans & Horse Grenadiers were very good at evading..but the edge of the table saw an end to that..

The Prussian finally got into the French and saw off a brigade or 2. The Grenadiers are seen here wheeling to take on the line..all in vain...the French Cavalry had rallied and were now poised to ram it up the Prussian rear.. (so to speak). The French Infantry advanced and this melee saw the destruction of a Prussian infantry Brigade..(I know, unheard of)

The last action of the game saw the French Cavalry charge the Prussians in the rear but were seen off. Prussian carualties were mounting, we had done 5 turns out of 7 all with at least 3 pulses a couple with 4. We all agreed upon a draw...the French had done pretty bloody good. a great day...next meet is M&R for me, Donal Von Enteburg expressed his need to be on the Brussian side next time...

Nouvelle-Champagne offers a heartfelt thanks to Phantom Agent's Brussians and Akula's ubiquitous Enteburgers ("Anywhere, Anytime"). The lads had a great day out for their first ever run.

"Bitterly contested draw" seemed to be the right result for the day. :D

Thanks also to ChrisM for well and truly going out of his way to give me a lift and to Pz Ferdinand for the priceless expression on his face as it all went awry. It looked as if he'd had a bit of fun but, somehow, not quite enough of it :) :)

After over a decade's absence from the gaming scene, it was great to see the Cumberland still flying its ragged banner.

My thoughts also go out to Greywolf. Hope everything's going to be ok with the den mother.

This brings back fond memories of the old Cumberland meets. Starkadder throwing ones. Mangy charging anything that moved. The cardinal pontificating. Manning pining for beer.
There's not a lot of such gaming here in Beijing (if you exclude the spooks who were following us yesterday).
