A First Blooding. An ACW battle.

Gday All, Today the Penrith Wargames Society had a battle set in the American Civil War. The fictional senario pitted 2 Rebel divisions against 2 Federal ones using the Rank and File rules. The figures were a bit of a mishmash with everyone bringing whatever they had so there was everything from 20m...

Thank you for you comments.

They would have to be the most unusual Rebel unit on any table. And that is part of the fun.

Don't you just love those moments when you have this great idea, rush in to get it started and then find that some part of it just a complete grind? :D

Re: 18th Alabama

Massively.I am still learning really but I reckon I'd have to 5 or 6 times faster getting base coating done and am getting better shading on the figures to boot. The tones are often very subtle but I reckon the difference is noticable. Got to do some Confederate cavalry soon so to give you an idea I...

Re: 18th Alabama

Gunner Dunnbar; There is no "mix" per say, more just a method. All my base coating now is done with an airbrush and only the detail with a brush. All the figures are undercoated with grey "super etch" primer spray pack. The they are pre-shaded with Vallejo Model Air "Panzer Grey". For Butternut they...

I am using 2 colours from the Valejo Air range. "Mud Brown" and "German Camo Brown". Solid base coat of selected colour going easy on the undersides that have been preshaded. Then 50% mix of the same colour with white and then again with 75% white concentrating more on the upper surfaces with each p...

Now with bases, blankets and muskets done. Blankets get a basic highlight at this stage and some will get simple patterns later. Muskets are about the only thing that will use the same colours for all the figures. Try to find the same figures to photgraph each time but with 73 of them on the desk at...
