Ok side by side comparison. The paint pot below them is the colour used on that figure. http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn123/twilkodragon69/Projects/Painting%20log/2017/Janurary/20170127_225633.jpg http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn123/twilkodragon69/Projects/Painting%20log/2017/Janurary/2017...

Re: Mustering the Confederates.

I am using 2 colours from the Valejo Air range. "Mud Brown" and "German Camo Brown". Solid base coat of selected colour going easy on the undersides that have been preshaded. Then 50% mix of the same colour with white and then again with 75% white concentrating more on the upper surfaces with each p...

Re: Mustering the Confederates.

Now with bases, blankets and muskets done. Blankets get a basic highlight at this stage and some will get simple patterns later. Muskets are about the only thing that will use the same colours for all the figures. Try to find the same figures to photgraph each time but with 73 of them on the desk at...

Alexander's (the great) Italian Holiday.

My mate Tyberius has this fascination with Alexander the Great. For a while now he has been thinking about what might have happened if Alex had returned to Greece rather than dying in Persia. The thought is that sooner or later (mostly sooner) he would have taken his army West to 1) deal with any ri...

I'm catching up on some posting while I wait for paint to dry. This battle was a refight of the Battle of Carabobo in South America as part of their Wars of Independence. I took the role of Simon Bolivar commandng the rebels whilst Rick took on the Royalists/Loyalists. This was fought back in Decemb...

So with the Union brigade done it is now time to turn to the Rebels. Usually I paint unit by unit but to give the Rebs that rag-tag look I thought it would be easier to do them all at once. U.S. Sharpshooters. The darker ones were entirely brush painted a while ago. The brighter ones are just completed and largely done with an air brush. THe actually colours, from my readings, would lie somewhere between the two. I am reasonably happy with the result and think the air brush ones are th...

Remember that you only make plans so that you have something to change! PLans for 2017; 1. Complete the ACW armies. (don't buy any more, don't buy any more....) 2. Assemble, paint and play a 15mm Napoleonic army (Austrains look nice...) 3. Complete a number of major items on the wife's "To Do" list ...

To Gunnar Dunbar,

The "giant" is a metal figure I have had lying around for years. Dont know the make. Didn't think he looked so bad alongside the Perry's.

To Capt Darling,

Spending a lot more time on the bases. Still experimenting though.

Salamanca

The Penrith Wargames Society put on a game based on the battle of Salamanca of 1812 The game was to represent the attack of the 3rd and 5th Anglo-Portugese divisions on the Greater Arapiles. We used the "Rank and File" rules. I had command of the 5th. My plan was to use mostly Allied troops to attac...
