Alexander's (the great) Italian Holiday.

My mate Tyberius has this fascination with Alexander the Great. For a while now he has been thinking about what might have happened if Alex had returned to Greece rather than dying in Persia. The thought is that sooner or later (mostly sooner) he would have taken his army West to 1) deal with any ri...

Battle of Ayacucho.

So 1822, South America. The last major battle of the war of Independence. 15mm figures from Ricks collection. "Rank and File" rules. Penrith Wargames. Rick and I again had command of the same sides but this time each division would have its own commander. Lewis (left division), Michael K (Centre) an...

Battle of Carabobo.

I'm catching up on some posting while I wait for paint to dry. This battle was a refight of the Battle of Carabobo in South America as part of their Wars of Independence. I took the role of Simon Bolivar commandng the rebels whilst Rick took on the Royalists/Loyalists. This was fought back in Decemb...

Great conversions. I love doing this sort of thing myself but I find I have to be really motivated to it.

Can't wait to see them painted.

Mustering the Confederates.

So with the Union brigade done it is now time to turn to the Rebels. Usually I paint unit by unit but to give the Rebs that rag-tag look I thought it would be easier to do them all at once. U.S. Sharpshooters. The darker ones were entirely brush painted a while ago. The brighter ones are just completed and largely done with an air brush. THe actually colours, from my readings, would lie somewhere between the two. I am reasonably happy with the result and think the air brush ones are th...

Re: Plans For 2017?

Remember that you only make plans so that you have something to change! PLans for 2017; 1. Complete the ACW armies. (don't buy any more, don't buy any more....) 2. Assemble, paint and play a 15mm Napoleonic army (Austrains look nice...) 3. Complete a number of major items on the wife's "To Do" list ...

To Gunnar Dunbar,

The "giant" is a metal figure I have had lying around for years. Dont know the make. Didn't think he looked so bad alongside the Perry's.

To Capt Darling,

Spending a lot more time on the bases. Still experimenting though.

At this stage my mate has no Texans, though another box of Americans has landed on my desk. Funnily enough I am not working this year, will do some casual teaching, and have my own painting backlog (81kg of figures) to make a dent in. However all things are possible. :) Storing them when they are fi...

Salamanca

The Penrith Wargames Society put on a game based on the battle of Salamanca of 1812 The game was to represent the attack of the 3rd and 5th Anglo-Portugese divisions on the Greater Arapiles. We used the "Rank and File" rules. I had command of the 5th. My plan was to use mostly Allied troops to attac...

I'm a bit of a bower bird when it comes to figures. Just can't help myself sometimes.

Don't game near as much as I would like to.

School holidays means that I have time to paint and the excuse that it claers my mind from the previous term.

Re: God Save the Prince!

I think that they liked the rules. Relatively simple they are give a good result but one does need to keep checking a units morale. Ty was very surprised at how little manuever is possible with troops of this period. Mick was talking about some ACW rules and Ty wants to do 30 Years War battles. Stay...

So my old mate Tyberius wanted to organise a game of something and so asked me if I would arrange something. With the original intention for there to be 3 players per side I went to work and came up with something that used every ECW figure that I had many of which were unpainted (and still are). Th...

Honey Springs

Well ACW seems to be all the rage at the moment and so we at the Penrith Wargames Society have been getting into the spirit of things with one of our own using Brian Cowan's free rules off the net. They are very basic and have some real quirks though they mostly work no attack really has much of a c...
